Our Approach

The philosophy of Providence Wellbeing includes a focus on:

  • Recovery-oriented practice

We believe that people living with mental health challenges and people living with psychosocial disability can live satisfying and meaningful lives in spite of potential ongoing challenges. We believe that experiencing mental health challenges and the experience of psychosocial disability does not define the person, their potential or their future.

  • Trauma-informed care

We recognise the significant role that exposure to trauma and adversity plays in the development of a wide range of mental health issues. We recognise the wide-reaching of impacts of exposure to trauma and adversity across the lifespan on both physical and mental wellbeing. We recognise that exposure to trauma is tragically common in our communities and we believe that the provision of trauma-informed care is essential to the provision of truly effective care.

  • Strengths-based practice

We believe that the foundation of effective occupational therapy practice is the recognition of a person’s strengths. We recognise that the consolidation of the individual’s strengths and the fostering of resilience are an important focus of therapy.
