The Providence Wellbeing Academy seeks to be a provider of high quality interactive, self-paced professional development training for occupational therapists and mental health professionals (including psychologists, social workers, counsellors, psychotherapists, mental health nurses and others) interested in building skills in providing best practice, evidence-based therapy.

“The Enactive Embodiment model of occupational therapy: A multicontextual, occupation-centred and strengths-based approach".

DELIVERY FORMAT: Online, self-paced delivery via the Providence Wellbeing Academy hosted on the Teachable platform.


OVERVIEW

This training will provide an introduction to: 

  • The prevalence of exposure to trauma and adversity amongst different populations;

  • The core features of trauma-informed care; 

  • The neurobiology of trauma and adversity and the societal impacts/costs of exposure to trauma and adversity; 

  • Exploration of the integrative and practice-based foundations (self regulation shift theory; embodied cognition; neuro-occupation; non-linear dynamics; intersubjectivity; co-occupation and enacted togetherness; dialectical philosophy and the contemporary neurobioloogy of trauma and adversity) of the Enactive Embodiment model of trauma-informed occupational therapy;

  • Exploration of the ten core dialectical processes of the Enactive Embodiment model of trauma-informed occupational therapy;

  • Detailed exploration of the each component of Enactive Embodiment model of trauma-informed occupational therapy and sub-components;

  • The application of Enactive Embodiment model aided by video case scenarios demonstrating core steps and techniques;

  • The importance of strategies for personal wellbeing (including the role of clinical consultation).



OBJECTIVES

Following completion of the training, participants will:

  1. Demonstrate a knowledge of the prevalence of exposure to trauma and adversity in the broader population as well as among individuals presenting with health or disability related needs;

  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the core features of trauma-informed care (as defined by practice guidelines) as well as the distinctions between trauma-informed care and trauma-focused treatment;

  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the neurobiological, functional, social and relational consequences of exposure to trauma and adversity;

  4. Be able to describe the foundations of the Enactive Embodiment model of trauma-informed occupational therapy;

  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the stages and sub-components of the Enactive Embodiment model;

  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of the development of personal wellbeing strategies for the effective and sustainable provision of trauma-informed care;

  7. Develop strategies for the promotion of personal wellbeing with a focus on the value of clinical consultation.
